Halo 3 (Heroic Map Pack)

Genre: FPS
Publisher: Microsoft
Developer: Bungie
Release Date: December 11, 2007

By now, odds are you've heard of the Heroic Map Pack for Halo 3 that Bungie is planning to bring out in less than a week's time. If not, here's the deal: Starved Halo 3 junkies will soon get the opportunity to play around with three brand-new maps. I went to Bungie last week for the sole purpose of bringing back the lowdown on these new battlegrounds. In a room full of with game journalists and Bungie designers (all manning 16 terminals), I ended up getting my butt kicked quite a bit, but I still came back with the info you crave.

  • Halo 3 players will be able to enjoy three all new multiplayer maps on December 11 as part of the Heroic Map Pack, the first in a series of downloadable content from Bungie Studios to come via Xbox LIVE.
  • Available for 800 Microsoft Points exclusively on Xbox LIVE Marketplace, each map presents a totally different play style.
  • The symmetrical valley of Standoff, with its entrenched bases and fields of boulders is ideal for mid-sized objective and Slayer game types.
  • The vast, labyrinthine passages of the Rat's Nest bring something completely new to the multiplayer experience: an indoor vehicle paradise. Strongly influenced by the Campaign mode, this map is ideal for big team battles.
  • Foundry is the ultimate Forge map. Players can edit every single object in this voluminous industrial warehouse, placing stairways, walls, bridges, and tunnels to create an entirely new play space and build almost any kind of map imaginable

Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops Plus (PSP)

Genre: Action/Online
Publisher: Konami
Developer: Kojima Productions
Release Date: November 13, 2007

In this portable multiplayer experience (a stand-alone "expansion" on the content from the original Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops, sold separately), players will enjoy more maps and missions, plus recruit a crew of battle-hardened warriors for combat against real opponents in online arenas.

Portable Ops + includes a new single player mode, "Infinity Mission," in which players must advance from start to finish through increasingly difficult stages, gathering weapons and recruiting high-level comrades to build up their units. Additional multiplayer modes such as the Shooting Range to test player's shooting skills in a deathmatch environment and a Training Mode to practice and sharpen their game controls will challenge even the most experienced tactical fighters. Using saved data from the original Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops, players can create instant squads for battle.
